Dua e Kumail is significant Dua in Fiqh e jafria ( Ithna Ashri ). This prayer ( Dua ) is taught by Imam Ali (peace be upon him). Imam Ali (a.s.) taught this prayer to his companion Hazrat Kumail r.z. According to the great scholar of the Shia school, Allama Majlisi, this prayer is vital. According to tradition, this prayer was taught by Hazrat Khizr (peace be upon him) and Hazrat Ali (peace be upon him) taught it to his special companion Hazrat Kumayl ibn Ziyad Al-Nakha’i. Hazrat Khizr (peace be upon him) has a special place in Islamic history and he is still alive it is claimed that he wrote the Dua e Kumail.

According to Sayyid ibn Tawus, Hazrat Kumail, the companion of Hazrat Ali a.s, attended a meeting of Mula Ali a.s on the night of the 15th Sha’ban at the Mosque in Basra. Maula Ali (peace be upon him) says to his companions on the 15th of Sha’ban that Whoever recites this Dua teaching of Hazrat Khizr (peace be upon him) on this night, all his prayers will be accepted. When all the people went to their homes from the Mosque, Maula Ali (peace be upon him) called Hazrat Kumail to where He was staying and taught this Dua. He told Hazrat Khamail to record and memorize this dua. After that, Maula Ali (peace be upon him) emphasized this much to Hazrat Khamail about this dua. Say, O Kamail, Recite this dua every Friday (the evening preceding the day of Friday), once a month, or at least once a year.
